This Saturday is the Orange County Guitar Circle's last Featured Artist Recital of the season offering the remarkable artistry of the renown Amadeus Duo, definitely not to be missed. We're being offered some unusual opportunities during this busy week, beginning with Tuesday's free "Guitar Nights" evening at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music, when half of the program will feature the young Polish star Krzysztof Meisinger. He'll be performing twice again this week as half of a duo with violinist Anna Maria Staskiewic, on Friday at Sierra Madre Music and on Saturday at the Fret House in Covina. Our busy week begins on Wednesday evening in Corona del Mar when the Schneiderman-Yamaya Duo offer a recital featuring various combinations of baroque lute, mandora & mandolin, and continues Friday at noon in Claremont with Ursula Maria Kleinecke-Boyer and Gregg Nestor presenting a free duo voice/guitar recital. This Tuesday USC will offer their Guitar Student Concerto Concert, which promises to be a wonderful evening including music by Rodrigo and Brouwer performed by prize-winning young musicians. Just one event this week, a good one - the highly acclaimed Minneapolis Guitar Quartet will perform on Saturday evening at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo. Two more podcasts in Scott Wolf's "All Strings Considered" series have been posted, Episode 7 focuses on Vladimir Gorbach (he was 2011's GFA competition winner and our first OCGC Featured Artist of this season back in September) and Episode 8 features the Russian-born star Grisha Goryachev. Saturday evening is the OCGC's first meeting of the new year at Chapman, a Showcase Recital featuring our wonderfully talented members. The schedule for our next Showcase in March is still open, contact James Chiang if you'd like to reserve a slot to perform. The last two classical guitar events of the year are unfortunately scheduled at almost the same time on Sunday afternoon. The wonderful musician/scholar John Schneiderman performs music for 18th century lute and 19th century guitar at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, the concert is free with a paid admission to the museum, always worth visiting itself.
