Three free events on this week's schedule, with Michael Nigro and his Vanguard University guitar ensemble performing at the Ventura Classical Guitar Society's meeting in Camarillo on Wednesday, Charles Suovanen offering a noontime recital at LA City College on Thursday, and Jason Yoshida performing on lute and baroque guitar at noon on Friday in Claremont. Another busy week begins at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa on Thursday with an afternoon Master Class by David Grimes followed by an evening concert by Antonyi Kakamakov. That same evening the LA Guitar Quartet team up with Phil Proctor to offer their wonderful music/reading interpretation of Don Quixote - I'm not sure if it's still possible to make a reservation, but it should be memorable. This Wednesday at noon the Malkin/Trybeck Duo (mezzo-soprano & guitar) appear in a free performance in Glendale, and on Friday evening the USC Classical Guitar Department offer a recital by their stellar alumni, also free. This week got busy and is heavy with duos. The Los Angeles Guitar Duo of Amy Hite and Monica Cremona appear twice, first on Wednesday in a free performance for the Ventura County CG Society in Camarillo, then again for the Long Beach CG Society on Saturday. Also on Saturday the AlmaNova Duo offer one of their lovely flute/guitar recitals in LA, and Martha Masters, the USC-trained GFA winner from a few years ago performs at Trilogy Guitars in Playa del Rey. The only event this week is the Guitar Circle's monthly meeting Saturday evening at Chapman. It's a Showcase Recital, come to meet and socialize with your fellow guitar aficionados and enjoy their playing. On Saturday evening our esteemed Guitar Circle President Jeff Cogan will appear with the La Mirada Symphony performing Rodgrigo's "Fantasia para un Gentilhombre".
