Running late, I already missed Tuesday and Wednesday events - best to regularly check the online schedule and not rely on my weekly reminders. ;-) But this Friday the Cal Poly Pomona Guitar Ensemble concertizes under its director Peter Yates, on Saturday the guitar Duo Ex Ovo perform at LA Valley College, and on Sunday afternoon Scott Tennant offers a Master Class at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music, free to auditors. The Mexican star Alfonso Moreno on tour with the State Symphony Orchestra of Mexico and will appear in the area twice this week, performing Ponce's "Concierto del Sur" in Costa Mesa on Thursday evening, and Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez" in Northridge on Friday. Also on Thursday Peter Yates offers an evening of guitar with voice and strings at UCLA, and on Friday at lunchtime Buzz Gravelle appears in a free faculty recital at Cal Poly Pomona. Tonight at USC the brilliant SoloDuo offer a free recital...the required reservation list is currently full, but they're performing one more time on Wednesday at Cal State Northridge. The Orange County Guitar Circle's monthly meeting at Chapman this Saturday will feature the brilliant Anton Baranov, 2013 winner of the GFA competition on his year-long victory tour.
