We have three events this week, on Monday evening Taro Wayama appears in a free performance at the LA Public Library in Venice and on Saturday afternoon the Artisan Ensemble perform in Manhattan Beach, also free. Then on Sunday afternoon the Campanella Guitar Quartet offer a recital at the Merc in Temecula, and they'll perform again the following evening in Cerritos. Two free recitals at libraries this week, on Tuesday at lunchtime Andrew Serra and his Garvey Center students offer a Holiday Guitar Concert in Rosemead, and on Wednesday evening USC doctoral student Ines Thome performs in Rolling Hills Estates. This is the season for guitar program recitals, beginning Thursday evening with the stellar USC department's recital and continuing Friday afternoon with students in Pepperdine's Classical Guitar program performing in Malibu, both events are free. Then two concerts presenting guitar orchestras as well as soloists and ensembles, the LA Valley College program on Friday evening in Valley Glen, and Orange Coast College's program in Costa Mesa on Sunday afternoon, which also features guest artist William Kanengiser. This Saturday the Orange County Guitar Circle's holds its monthly meeting at Chapman, featuring the young French star Armen Doneyan, prize winner at many international competitions including a silver medal at the recent 2015 GFA competition. Busy week starting on Wednesday when Mak Grgic performs in the world premier of a new piece for guitar and ensemble with USC's Thornton Edge Ensemble in a free concert, then on Thursday UCI's John Schneiderman plays theorbo (kind of a lute on steroids) as guest soloist with the LA Chamber Orchestra. On Wednesday evening the young French star Gaëlle Solal appears in recital at Cal State Fullerton, and she'll offer two Master Classes, both free to auditors, one at CSUF earlier that afternoon and another at USC on Thursday afternoon. Then Olivia Chiang will perform twice at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, once alone on Thursday evening and again together with Rafael Elizondo on Sunday afternoon. There are three events on this week's schedule, beginning Wednesday evening with the Ventura County Classical Guitar Society's monthly meeting in Camarillo, free as always, and featuring guest artists David Grimes and Gregory Newton. Another busy week with the first event on Monday morning, a Master Class by Paul Galbraith in El Cajon, free to auditors, it's always a delight and an education to listen to Galbraith either perform or teach.
